Endorse the Earth Charter

ec_logoShow your support for shared global values for our common future by endorsing the Earth Charter. The Earth Charter is an inspiring international declaration of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable and peaceful global society in the 21st century. At a time when major changes in how we think and live are urgenly needed, the Earth Charter challenges us to examine our values and choose a better way. It calls on us to search for common ground in the midst of our diversity and to embrace a new ethical vision shared by growing numbers of people in many nations and cultures throughout the world.

Endorsement of the Earth Charter involves agreeing to and signing the following statement:
"We, the undersigned, endorse the Earth Charter. We embrace the spirit and aims of the document. We pledge to join the global partnership for a just, sustainable, and peaceful world and to work for the realization of the values and principles of the Earth Charter."

Additionally, it is expected that an Endorser will:
1. Actively promote the Earth Charter and follow the Action Guidelines found on the Earth Charter website.
2. Contribute to the Earth Charter Initiative and to Earth Charter-inspired action projects in whatever way is most appropriate.
3. Implement the Earth Charter in his/her professional work and personal life.

Join the End Poverty 2015 Millennium Campaign

children_in_india_2_smallEvery voice counts! Join the growing global movement asking governments to honor their committments to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Millions still live in extreme poverty, yet the world has enough money, resources and technology to end poverty forever. The MDGs are a unique opportunity to end poverty with achievable, timebound and locally defined targets.

In a joint statement with Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, Rabbi Soetendorp called on the faith communities to do everything in their power to support the MDGs:

"We are called by the All Merciful One to sanctify time, and devote this coming decade, every year, every hour to the alleviation of misery, to the provision of water, health, food, education, and peace. Our prophets teach us not only to feed the hungry, but to give of our own bread. Every woman, man, and child must take personal responsibility and enter into this covenant of justice."

Here is what you can do:

  • Support the Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP), the growing alliance of NGOs, trade unions, community groups, faith groups, women's and youth organisations, and other campaigners working together across more than 100 national platforms.
  • Check out the MDG Monitor to find out how countries are progressing in their efforts to achieve the MDGs.
